My Day: March 3, 2009

Over the last few months, I’ve had the pleasure of speaking in several clinics around the country. I bring this up, because the most common question I get asked from the young professionals coming up in the field is: How do you fit your team training, camps, consulting, projects and family into your day? My answer: If you love what you do, you get it done, because its not really work after its all said and done. Be organized and have a daily plan.

So I decided to share my schedule for Wednesday, March 3rd.

5:00am- Protein shake, fruit and walk the dog

6:25am- Bomber Football Varsity workout. First week of speed, agility, and quickness phase with emphasis on acceleration, deceleration, and change of direction. We worked for 30 minutes of activation, mobility, and agility drills and headed to the weightroom to complete a total body workout with lower body emphasis. Good intensity and effort.

8:00am- Meeting with my business partner Adam Rankin. Discussed Ethos Athletics spring schedule and what we are focusing on in the next few weeks. As we move forward in 2009, we will be expanding The Athlete Report Newsletter into a weekly radio show, adding two elite speed camp programs into the schedule this spring, putting the finishing touches on two of our top secret “Projects” and will be expanding our training services into new satellite facilities.

9:30am- Personal workout. Dynamic warm up with hip flexor emphasis, hip mobility, jump rope, body weight exercises, core routine, and 45 minutes of cardio. Post workout X-milk shake and some fruit.

11:00am- We are in the process of putting the final touches on our May 23rd Football Strength and Conditioning Clinic. AJ Roberts and I spoke on finalizing the clinic website, ironed out our sponsors, took care of flights and hotel for our speakers. I’m not bragging, but this will be the best high school strength and conditioning clinic in the country this year. Our speaker list includes: Dr. Ken Leistner, Joe Kenn (U. Louisville), Brian Grasso (IYCA), Scott Holsopple (U. Florida), Paul Longo (U. Cincinnati), Aaron Wellman (San Diego State), and myself. The flyer mails out early next week.

1:00pm- I had a great conversation with Zach Even-Esh. For those who don’t know him, he’s the mad man from Jersey. The man behind Undergroundstrengthcoach.com. The man is a beast and I love how he trains his guys. No BS, no gadgets, no fluff. Hopefully in the near future, we can get our schedules to work and finalize a high school strength and conditioning project together. Keep an eye out for this guy.

2:00pm- Finalized my list of coaches for the Nike Football Combine happening next week March 14th. So far, we have 900+ athletes registered for this event and some 200 athletes registered for the NIke SPARQ Mini-Camp on the 21st of March. Its always a pleasure to work with NIke on projects. These guys love sports and they will do anything and everything to help out.

3:30pm- Bomber Football Group 2. This group is mostly all freshman with a few JV or Varsity players. We have developed a Freshmen Development Program that helps young athletes build a good stable base prior to the higher intensity and advanced training models that we incorporate with our juniors and seniors. This training session focuses on technique, spotting, and proper execution of the lifting routine.

5:00pm- Answered about a two dozen emails and returned phone calls. Finalized my exercise menu for a baseball video/photo shoot at Force Fitness and Performance in Bloomington, Indiana on Saturday. I’m letting the cat out of the bag. We will be finishing our baseball manual and dvd set this weekend. Keep an eye out for upcoming baseball-specific content.

6:00pm- Finally heading home!
