About The Clinic
St. Xavier’s Football Strength and Conditioning Clinic, embodies the ethos of our training philosophy and represents the culmination of participating coaches work throughout the prior year and career.
With this event, we give attendees live access to top football strength and conditioning visionaries and the training programs that make these programs successful. Our goal is to help you learn from and be inspired by their practices and insights into training the top high school, collegiate and professional football players in the country.
The clinic itself is a great conversation starter, but the greater value is in taking attendees inside these stellar programs and teaching them something they don’t know: surprising programming, smart techniques and best practices.
Who Should Attend
A mixed agenda format will offer attendees a variety of ways to engage with and employ the innovative ideas that come from the scintillating content and unexpected environment.
The clinic content is aimed toward coaches, administrators and parents interested in the fields of strength & conditioning, personal training, physical therapy, athletic training, health, wellness, sports administration and management.

The problems associated with hunger and food insecurity are not confined to the nation’s largest cities. For many people in our community, hunger and food insecurity are a harsh reality. Thousands of working adults, children and seniors in our region are struggling with hunger every day.
The Freestore Foodbank successfully distributes over 12 million pounds of food per year through a dedicated network of over 325 local Member Agencies. They are a trusted partner to these agencies, which include soup kitchens, pantries, shelters, community groups, and other social services organizations.

Speaker Bios
Ken Leistner is an American strength training writer, personal trainer, chiropractor and strength consultant for the National Football League. He is often known as “Dr. Ken”. In 1992, Leistner founded the Iron Island Gym in Long Island and has been a regular columnist for Milo since its inception in April 1993. He was a monthly columnist for Powerlifting USA from February 1979 through November 2000, and was a long-time columnist for Hardgainer. He has written articles for a number of other strength training magazines. He started his own training newsletter, The Steel Tip, in 1985, and published 36 issues. Leistner also contributed a chapter to the book Maximize Your Training. He is married to the former Kathy Tuite, a photographer and world-class powerlifter in the early 1980s.
John Dettmann is in his 18th year as a strength and conditioning coach at Wisconsin and his 16th as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for the Department of Athletics. In this role, he oversees conditioning programs and facilities for all Badger athletic teams and was the primary contact for the Wisconsin football team until January of 2009. During his tenure, the Badgers have played in 13 bowl games and won three Big Ten titles. Prior to UW, Dettmann worked in administration at the Houston (1984 86) and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., (1988-89) YMCAs. Dettmann earned his B.S. degree in corporate fitness from UW-Oshkosh. At UW-Oshkosh, Dettmann was an honorable mention All-American, team MVP and athlete of the year as a senior wide receiver. He signed a free agent contact with the Green Bay Packers in 1982. He was inducted into the UW-Oshkosh Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993.
Joe Kenn is the owner of Big House Power, current Head Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Carolina Panthers and the former Director of Athletic Development at the University of Louisville. Prior to the Panthers, Coach Kenn spent two seasons at Louisville and seven seasons at Arizona State University, including five as the head coach of ASU’s Sports Performance program. Kenn came to ASU after serving as the director of strength and conditioning at the University of Utah from 1999 -2000. Kenn was the head strength and conditioning coach at Boise State from 1994-99, but spent nine years total at Boise State (1991-99). His first coaching assignment came as an assistant football and strength coach at Pine Crest Preparatory School in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (1989-1990). He then became the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Wake Forest University in 1991. Kenn was named the College Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year in 2002 and has been a finalist for the award four times during his career.
Carlo Alvarez is in his sixth season as the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at St. Xavier High School, the home of Ohio’s Division I Football State Champions in 2005 and 2007, where he oversees the program development of all 13 sports and 700 athletes. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, University of Cincinnati as a student assistant and in 1998, ventured to South Bend, Indiana to the University of Notre Dame. In 2000, he became the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for the Cleveland Indians and in 2002, Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for the Cincinnati Reds. He is recognized as one of the top high school strength and conditioning coaches in the country.
Jason Gallucci graduated from Penn State with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science and a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology/Biomechanics in 2000. As an undergraduate at Penn State he was a member of the football team including the 1994 team that went 12-0 and won the Rose Bowl. While completing his Master’s degree, Coach Gallucci worked as a graduate assistant strength coach for the Penn State Football team and as the head strength coach for the university’s club boxing program. Upon graduation, Coach Gallucci was hired at Princeton as an assistant strength coach and was named head strength coach in 2002. While working at Princeton, he has had worked published in the Journal of Applied Biomechanics and has co-authored a book titled, Training the Female Athlete: Reach for Victory.
Jason Loscalzo is Director of Football Strength and Conditioning at Boston College. Prior to Boston College, he served as assistant strength and conditioning coach and Director of Sports Nutrition at Auburn University. He has served as the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach/Sports Nutrition Professional Consultant at Marshall from August 2001-May 2003. Was an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach and Athletic Sports Nutritionist at the University of Nevada, Reno from August 1999-August 2001. Was a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Arkansas from May 1999-August 1999. Began career as a Student Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Humboldt State from January 1996-May 1999. Coach Loscalzo, received B.S. in Kinesiology from Humboldt State in May, 1999, and master’s in Athletic Administration from University of Nevada, Reno in 2001.
