As incongruous as it sounds, I hope there are people like you in your children’s lives.  Parents really need it to help raise good kids. Like a lot of kids you work with, and not only with the stars or kids who “go to the next level,”  you have made a huge difference in my son’s life and he would not have gotten into West Point without your influence and inspiration.  But perhaps unlike a lot of those kids and their parents, you might not know how far and deep your influence carries.   I hope this shows how you have done this and that I, like he, will be forever grateful.

Coming into Saint Xavier, I knew very little about strength and conditioning, however over my fours years, I was shown and learned more than I thought was possible. Everything from flexibility, agility, speed work , and strength were all encompassed in the strength and conditioning program. Coach Alvarez does a great job of building from the ground up; he starts you as a freshman with exercises that will help you smoothly transition into the lifts as juniors and seniors.  The amount of attention to detail placed into the strength and conditioning program at Saint Xavier is what really makes it great. The program laid out by CoachAlvarez and his staff has allowed me to successfully transition into college athletics. Many college lifts are structured the same way as many of the lifts at Saint Xavier, the movements are very similar and I was prepared very well. However most of all the people in the Strength and Conditioning program make it what it is, Carlo and his staff are very knowledgeable and are there to help you. I know that without the help of the program and the staff at St. Xavier, I would not be where I am today.

I first met Carlo when he served as the strength and conditioning coach at St. Xavier High School from 1996 through 1998.  During that time I noticed a young man with an incredible determination and unparalleled work ethic.  Most importantly, Carlo demonstrated a genuine care and concern for the well being of the high school athlete.  Today I have the great privilege of watching Carlo work with the St. Xavier football players on a daily basis.  He has developed his determination and work ethic through both the college and professional ranks to a point that I believe ranks him as one of the elite high school strength and conditioning coaches in the country.  He has earned a tremendous amount of respect from his peers and, in my opinion, has earned the love of his players.  Since re-joining our program in 2005, Carlo has increased the speed, strength, conditioning, and flexibility of our players and played an integral role in our drive to the 2005 and 2007 Ohio Division I state football championships.  Watching Carlo guide and develop a program of over 300 student athletes is not only refreshing to witness, but also exciting to be involved with.  Above all, Carlo is a quality human being and a good friend.

Carlo has been a great mentor, friend, colleague, teacher, motivator, and competitor. Being a young guy coming up in the field, I have been truly blessed to have the opportunity to learn from one of the best this industry has to offer. Carlo’s understanding of Strength Coaching is unparalleled from his fly-wheel method for program set-up and execution, to his presence in the room. His dynamic method takes into account every aspect of an athlete’s development. This holistic approach develops the athlete not just physically, but psychologically as well.  Even better are his methods for developing Strength & Conditioning Coaches. He has demonstrated a genuine care and invested almost nine years of his own time in my development as a coach. I have always felt like family with Carlo which has made the process of learning even more enjoyable. If you are looking to be a Strength & Conditioning Coach, drop what you’re doing and give this extraordinary Coach a call. A million thanks Carlo!

Carlo is a one the great performance enhancement specialist in the field. His expertise takes away the hassle and frustration of conditioning, training, nutrition, and medical issues among others, through a dynamic program.  Carlo considers each individual, team or organization and tailors the programs to achieve specific goals, monitoring and measuring progress at all times.  Because of his extensive background, he provides highly effective strategies for athletes, and organizations. We started as a team on a national youth education program, but he has become a trusted advisor.

I have had the pleasure of working with Carlo on a recent project for an international program called playlikethepros.  Carlo was chosen because of his professionalism and overall knowledge of the industry. His work ethic and attention to detail are unparalleled, as well as, his passion for training athletes properly is contagious.  Having been a professional athlete, it’s easy to spot insincerity, but Carlo is at the top of his game!

After reading an article in Sports Illustrated about Coach Alvarez, I phoned and asked him if he would work with young boxers ages 13-19 (one of them Rashee Warren a returning Olympiad) in the Cincinnati Golden Gloves/Police Athletic League Boxing program. He immediately agreed and then designed a program specific to our boxing group, based on the results of the testing. A few weeks into the program and you can already see improvements in every single boxer. Coach Alvarez is very caring and personable and the boxers take to him like a duck takes to water. They eagerly look forward to each session. Carlo Alvarez is an asset to our Boxing program; He brings knowledge and passion for what he does. I highly endorse him and any athletic program he designs.

I don’t know how often you get thanked for what you do, but I really hope you do a lot.  I can’t tell you how much all those workouts you put together for us meant to me.  Unfortunately I hardly have time to lift weights anymore.  I get in the weight room once or twice a week if I’m lucky.  But I use skills I learned in the weight room every day of my life to work my ass off whether it be in school (I actually even got a 3.98 one quarter in engineering, I’m sure that’d drop some of my old teacher’s jaws), being a good family member or anything I do.  I learned that everything I do is important even if it’s just one rep that I could have skipped out on.   Weight training taught me that hard work pays off and once I got that I just can’t stop working hard.   When I work hard I find myself around good people and enjoying life and everything I do which makes it worth it every time. So basically thanks for kicking my ass for four years so I can kick ass the rest of my life.

Thanks,

Matt A.
